Description

This project involved the interior renovation of the Library and the Information and Instructional Services Technology department, located on the second and third floors of the Academic Resources Centre Building. The renovation aimed to modernize and enhance the functionality of these key academic support spaces within an active, operational educational facility.

The scope of work included the demolition of existing architectural, mechanical, and electrical elements, as well as the safe removal of hazardous materials. New construction involved updated floor finishes, reconfigured partitions and ceilings, and the supply and installation of both new and reused casework to meet programmatic needs. Mechanical, electrical, and IT upgrades formed a significant part of the renovation, with the introduction of new HVAC systems, plumbing modifications, and the installation of modern lighting, power, and data infrastructure to support current and future technology requirements.

The project required careful coordination to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing campus operations, reflecting a commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality in a complex renovation environment.

Description

This project to MacDonald Stewart Hall at the University of Guelph’s Hotel and Tourism Management Department involved renovations and an infill addition to this facility. The scope of work included of the demolition of the existing partial exterior envelope to make way for the three-storey addition.

The addition included a new state of the art dining/multi purpose room, entrance vestibule and lobby, reading room, storage and mechanical rooms. Exterior walls include pre-cast columns that extend 3-storeys high complimented with the use of masonry veneer and copper cladding. Emphasis is given to preserving and complimenting the historical aspects of MacDonald Stewart Hall.

Renovations to this site involved enlarging the existing kitchen and other administrative rooms, and extending the existing mechanical tunnel system.

Work on this project was carried out while the university was fully operational.

This 13,250sf childcare/early learning centre facility was designed with the capacity for 102 children. This building amalgamates several existing campus facilities under one roof and consists of basement, ground, 2nd and 3rd floor areas. The facility includes a variety of play environments with outdoor play spaces at every level. A strong interaction between the natural environment was reinforced with the use of natural materials.
