Renovations to the buildings included a new art gallery and museum spaces incorporating climate controlled building exhibition and storage spaces, washrooms, reception area, the provision of a workshop addition and new interior finishes.<\/p>\n

Programming for this project included the construction of a new tunnel systems between the building basements and the addition of an exterior elevator to allow climate controlled access to all buildings, underpinning and excavation the basement areas, the addition of a loading and shipping area and above-grade building links. This involved the utilization of caissons to ensure the stability of the surrounding structures as well as constructing with a combination of steel and masonry elements. To complete this work, multiple locations with stone walls were shored using helical piles.<\/p>\n

Sustainable features of this project included geothermal technology, a green roof and high performance glazing. The special preservation needs of this archaeological site and art gallery with strict environmental controls was achieved by the creation of a buffer zone between the existing building envelope and the environmentally sealed gallery\/storage area.<\/p>\n

This project was the recipient of the Brampton Urban Design Awards for:
